Echoes of a future

Echoes of a future

This series explores the profound connection between the Soviet legacy and contemporary Armenia. I aim to capture the lingering echoes of Soviet ideals within daily life, acknowledging that this modern reality is, in many ways, a fiction shaped by past dreams.

Walking through the streets, I am struck by how visions from a vanished era continue to resonate. Imposing buildings and monuments—marked by the seal of that period—carry the weight of old aspirations. Yet, this tangible reality is deeply infused with an 'imagined future' that never fully arrived.

Each photograph is an attempt to reveal these remnants. I strive to show how partially realized structures have created a landscape where dreams of a bright future are both omnipresent and irrevocably altered. Through my lens, I perceive a silent dialogue between past projects and current realities, colored by the unfinished nature of the Soviet project.

This project is a personal journey to understand how those once-promising visions have steered Armenia’s path. By documenting these 'echoes of the future,' I feel connected to a larger history—to shared dreams that persist in the fabric of the city and the lives of its people, remaining forever suspended between a planned utopia and a lived fiction.
